“It takes a village to raise a child” - an African proverb
Our concept for the ECD (Early Childhood Development) Center is to create a cluster of village-like buildings, built with locally found materials such as mud bricks or mud-packed walls. The design intent of the village layout is to create a safe haven, promoting a sense of community and to encourage playful exploration within the many nooks and crannies of this imaginary urban space.
To counter the hot sub Saharan climate, the design uses simple passive temperature control strategies to ensure the Center remains shaded and cool through out the day. The clustered block configuration is designed to fit into any urban or rural locations and can be rearranged to suit any site conditions.
